This page explains how SavingsHacks researches, writes and corrects its guides, so you can judge how much weight to give what you read here.
Where the facts come from
For each guide we search for the retailer’s own published policy first. An official retailer page always outranks a third-party summary, and we record which sources a guide was built from along with the date it was checked.
Where a retailer publishes no policy of its own, we say so in the article and rely on recent reporting instead. We treat that as weaker evidence and tell you to confirm at the store. We do not present an absent policy as if it were a published one.
What we will not do
- Invent a policy detail that no source states.
- Present third-party reporting as though it came from the retailer.
- Leave a year-specific deadline in an article once the season it belongs to has passed.
Accuracy and how we check
Retail policy is unusually easy to get wrong: windows differ by product category, franchise locations set their own rules, and chains change terms without announcing it. Two things we watch for in particular are policies that vary by individual store, and figures that were true for one season only.
Guides are re-checked against the retailer’s current published policy on a rolling basis, and any guide can be re-checked on request.
Corrections policy
When we find an error, we fix the article rather than quietly deleting it, and we re-check the source before publishing the correction. If a reader reports an error, we verify it against the retailer’s published policy first and correct within a few days.
Report an error through our Contact page. Tell us the page and what changed.
Independence
We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or paid by any retailer we cover. The site currently carries no advertising and no affiliate links. If that changes we will disclose it here and on the affected pages before any paid link appears.
