Do Walmart Gift Cards Expire?

No. According to Walmart’s official terms, gift cards never expire. You can use your Walmart gift card at any time in the future, with no deadline or time limit imposed.

Can You Return or Cash Out a Walmart Gift Card?

Walmart gift cards are not returnable or refundable for cash in most states. However, federal and state laws require cash redemption in specific jurisdictions if your gift card balance falls below a certain dollar amount. Those states are California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Maine, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington.

If you live in one of these states and your card balance is under the threshold set by that state’s law, you can request cash redemption at a Walmart store or by contacting gift card customer service. Outside these states, Walmart will not convert unused gift card balances to cash.

Selling or exchanging a Walmart gift card for cash is prohibited and may result in account suspension or balance forfeiture.

How to Check Your Walmart Gift Card Balance

You have three ways to check your balance:

• Online: Save your gift card to your Walmart account and view the balance in your account dashboard. You can save up to five gift cards at one time.
• Phone: Call Walmart Gift Card Customer Service at 1-888-537-5503. Service hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM, excluding major holidays.
• In-store: Ask a cashier to check the balance at any Walmart register.

The balance shown online or by phone is an estimate only. In most cases, the balance updates immediately after you make a purchase online or in a store, but delays may occur occasionally.

Walmart Gift Card Consolidation

The official policy has changed. According to Walmart’s current terms, you cannot consolidate or combine multiple gift cards into a single card through a standard process. However, if you have multiple cards, you can use them separately at checkout or use one card to purchase another new gift card equal to the combined total, then use that new card.

Lost or Stolen Walmart Gift Cards

If your card is lost or stolen, call Walmart Gift Card Customer Service immediately at 1-888-537-5503. Walmart will cancel the card and issue a replacement with the remaining balance, but only if you have your original receipt. Without the receipt, Walmart cannot replace the card.

Store the receipt in a safe place alongside your gift card, or take a photo and keep it in your email or phone. This documentation is essential for replacement.

Walmart is not liable for lost or stolen cards or unauthorized use by third parties. The company does not monitor cards or track their location.

Where You Can Use Walmart Gift Cards

Unless restrictions apply, you can use Walmart gift cards at any Walmart store in the U.S., Puerto Rico, in-app, and online at Walmart.com. Sam’s Club members can also use them at Sam’s Club stores and SamsClub.com. Non-Sam’s Club members who try to use a Walmart gift card at Sam’s Club may face a 10% service fee.

What You Cannot Buy With a Walmart Gift Card

Walmart gift cards cannot be used to purchase the following items:

• Precious metals
• Financial products or services
• Other gift cards

Ineligible goods and services are subject to change at Walmart’s discretion without notice.

Reloading Your Walmart Gift Card

If your card has a low balance, you can reload it online through your Walmart account. The minimum reload is $10, the maximum reload per transaction is $100, and the maximum total balance on a single card is $1,000. For security, you must re-enter your payment information each time you reload.

Saving Your Gift Card to Your Account

Saving your Walmart gift card to your account allows you to access it for online purchases without entering the card number each time and enables faster balance checks. However, saving the card information does not restrict its use for in-store purchases. You can still use the physical card at Walmart stores even if it is saved to your account.

You can save up to five gift cards in your Walmart account at any time. If you have more than five cards, you can still use them by entering the card number and PIN manually at checkout.

Gift Card Account Suspension

Walmart reserves the right to refuse a gift card and take further action, including balance forfeiture and account suspension or termination, if you engage in prohibited activities. These include using bots to check balances, copying card numbers without purchase, tampering with cards, or using cards for illegal purposes.

Transferring or Gifting a Walmart Gift Card

Walmart gift cards are designed for personal and business gifts. You can purchase a card and give it to someone else. However, Walmart prohibits selling or exchanging gift cards for cash or personal profit. The person who receives the card should keep the receipt if possible for documentation.

Bulk Gift Card Purchases

If you are ordering more than $1,000 in gift cards from Walmart.com, you should apply for a Bulk Gift Card Account at walmart.com/bulkgiftcards. For eGift cards or other bulk orders, contact Walmart directly at 1-800-411-7942 or [email protected]. Approval is at Walmart’s sole discretion.
