EBT Acceptance In-Store and Online
Aldi accepts SNAP EBT at all participating store locations nationwide. In-store, you can swipe your EBT card at any checkout lane or self-checkout. Simply enter your PIN when prompted.
For online orders, you can use EBT on Aldi’s website or mobile app for both pickup and delivery. There is no minimum order requirement. You will need to create an Aldi account to place an online order and must add a backup payment method such as a credit or debit card.
Aldi also accepts EBT through third-party delivery services. You can use your benefits on DoorDash, Uber Eats, and Instacart for Aldi grocery orders, though service fees and membership charges cannot be paid with your SNAP balance.
What You Can Buy With EBT at Aldi
You can purchase any item that meets USDA SNAP eligibility guidelines. Common SNAP-eligible items at Aldi include fresh and frozen fruits and vegetables, meat, poultry and fish, dairy products and eggs, bread, cereals, pasta and grains, snack foods like pretzels and nuts, and non-alcoholic beverages such as orange juice and bottled water. Packaged coffee beans and tea bags are eligible as long as they have a Nutrition Facts label.
You can also buy raw or frozen meats and seafood, live shellfish and fish removed from water at the store, sealed containers of ice cream, and packaged frozen meals like frozen pizzas and frozen french fries using your EBT card. For a complete list of what qualifies, visit the USDA SNAP eligible food items page.
What You Cannot Buy With EBT
Hot and ready-to-eat prepared foods are not covered by SNAP benefits. This includes hot coffee, hot tea, soup, and hot pizzas from Aldi’s deli or prepared food section. You cannot use EBT to purchase vitamins, medicines, or items with a Supplement Facts label, household supplies like cleaning products, pet food or treats, alcohol and tobacco, or non-food items like clothing, electronics, or toys.
On online orders, you cannot use your SNAP benefits to pay for delivery fees, ordering fees, convenience fees, or tips. These must be covered by a credit or debit card. Non-SNAP eligible items must also be paid for separately with another payment method.
How to Use EBT for Online Orders
To order online with EBT at Aldi, create an account on the website or app. Add a backup payment method for any fees or non-SNAP items. When you reach checkout, add or select your EBT card, check your balance, and adjust your payment amount as needed. Enter your SNAP EBT PIN to complete the transaction securely.
Important: you must provide a backup payment method because the final total may change. If a substitute product costs more than your original choice, if produce or meat weighs more than estimated, if a promotion expires, or if items are added during pickup, the difference will be charged to your backup card. For example, if a substitute brand of milk costs more or your bananas weigh more than expected, your backup card covers the difference.
The ALDI website and app mark SNAP-eligible items with a blue badge on product cards and in product details. Let the cashier know your remaining EBT balance before they start scanning in-store to avoid issues if your purchase total exceeds your available funds. Use your EBT card first, before other forms of payment.
Special Programs and Limitations
Aldi does not accept WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) benefits. If you receive WIC, you must shop at WIC-authorized retailers for those specific items. Aldi does not offer specific discounts for EBT customers, and Aldi does not accept coupons of any kind. However, Aldi’s everyday prices and store-brand products are typically lower than traditional grocery stores, which helps stretch your food budget. Check Aldi senior discount and Aldi coupon policy for other ways to save.
Compare Aldi’s EBT policy with other major retailers: Kroger EBT policy, Safeway EBT policy, and Publix EBT policy all accept EBT with similar rules for eligible items. If you shop online elsewhere, check Amazon EBT policy for delivery options.
Protecting Your EBT Card
When shopping with your EBT card at Aldi or anywhere else, never share your PIN with anyone, including store employees. Keep your EBT card in a secure place. Before swiping your card at any checkout, inspect the card reader for skimming devices. Give the card reader a gentle tug to check that it has not been tampered with by thieves attempting to steal your EBT card information. Report any suspicious activity to your state’s EBT customer service line immediately.
