Standard Price Adjustment Window: 15 Days
Best Buy’s basic price adjustment guarantee runs for 15 days from the date of purchase. If you buy an item and the price drops during this window, you can request a refund of the difference. This applies whether you bought in store or online.
To request an adjustment, go to your local Best Buy store with proof of the current lower price, or contact Best Buy online through their chat function at BestBuy.com. Do not call or email; chat leaves a timestamped record with a named agent that can be referenced if a dispute arises later. Bring a screenshot of the competitor’s product page showing the price and URL in the browser bar, or a printed advertisement.
Best Buy will verify the competitor’s price matches the exact brand, model number, and specifications of the item you purchased. The lower price must be currently available and in stock at an approved retailer.
Extended 30-Day Window for My Best Buy Plus and Total Members
Customers with a My Best Buy Plus or Total membership receive a 30-day price adjustment window instead of 15 days. This extended window covers most products and gives members more time to catch price drops after purchase.
The membership benefit applies to both in-store and online purchases. You must be the original purchaser and hold an active My Best Buy Plus or Total membership at the time you request the adjustment. If you are unsure of your membership status, ask a Customer Specialist at your local store or check your account on BestBuy.com.
Holiday Extended Window and Special Dates
Best Buy extends its price adjustment period during the winter holidays. Items purchased between October 31 and December 31 can receive price adjustments through January 15 of the following year. This longer window applies to both regular customers and members.
However, Best Buy does not adjust prices for items during specific promotional events. Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and other designated special event pricing periods are excluded from price adjustments. If you purchase during these events, you cannot request a refund if the price drops after the event ends. Always check BestBuy.com for current exclusion dates before requesting an adjustment.
What Gets Excluded from Price Adjustments
Certain product categories and conditions are never eligible for price adjustments, regardless of the time window:
- Clearance items, refurbished products, open-box merchandise, and pre-owned items
- Products sold by third-party sellers on Amazon, Walmart, Newegg, or other marketplaces (the item must be sold directly by the retailer)
- Membership-only pricing, unless you hold that membership yourself
- Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and special event pricing windows
- Items purchased as gifts, unless you were the original purchaser who paid for the item
The most common reason a price adjustment request is denied is outdated proof of the competitor’s price. Competitor prices change frequently throughout the day. Before submitting your request, take a full screenshot showing the price, product details, and the URL in the browser address bar with a visible timestamp. A price you saw at 9 AM may have changed by 2 PM when Best Buy processes your claim.
How to Request a Price Adjustment
The process differs depending on where you made your purchase.
In-store purchases: Visit your local Best Buy Customer Service desk or speak with a Customer Specialist. Bring proof of the current lower price from an approved competitor: a printed advertisement, a screenshot on your phone, or a live webpage. The specialist will verify the competitor’s price and process the refund to your original payment method if approved.
Online purchases: Use the chat function on BestBuy.com or call 1-888-BEST BUY (1-888-237-2289). Best Buy recommends using chat because it creates a timestamped transcript with a named agent attribution, which protects you if the refund fails to process or is later reversed. Provide the competitor’s website link showing the lower price and full product details. Email requests are not accepted for price adjustments.
For online orders set for in-store pickup, complete the Best Buy price match policy request before you finalize the purchase. Once the order is confirmed, you can only adjust the price during the standard return window by visiting the store or using chat.
Best Buy allows multiple price adjustments within your window if the item drops more than once. For example, if a laptop drops $50 two weeks after purchase and then drops another $75 the week after, you can request the refund a second time. Pre-ordered items are automatically adjusted if the price drops before the release date.
Comparison with Other Retailers
Best Buy’s 15-day window is shorter than some competitors. Whole Foods price adjustment policy and Safeway price adjustment policy offer similar windows for groceries, but electronics retailers vary. Amazon and Walmart use different models focused on active price matching rather than post-purchase refunds. Best Buy’s membership tier system (extended to 30 days for Plus and Total members) is more generous than most competitors in the electronics space. If you shop frequently at Best Buy and want the extended window, the My Best Buy Plus membership may offset its cost through this benefit alone.
