EBT Acceptance at CVS Stores
According to reporting, CVS Pharmacy currently accepts SNAP/EBT at all stores. You can use your EBT card at regular checkout lanes and at self-checkout, if your store has self-checkout available. At checkout, tell the cashier you want to use EBT so they can help you process the payment correctly. You will swipe your card and enter your PIN, just like using a debit card.
Not all CVS locations may have the same setup, so if you prefer to use self-checkout, call ahead to confirm your store has it. You can use the CVS store locator on their website to find the nearest location and get the phone number.
SNAP Delivery Options: DoorDash and Uber Eats
You cannot use EBT directly on CVS.com or through the CVS Health app for online grocery ordering. However, CVS partnered with DoorDash, Uber Eats, and Forage to allow SNAP/EBT payments through those delivery platforms.
According to reporting, customers can now shop over 37,000 SNAP-eligible items on DoorDash and Uber Eats from most CVS Pharmacy locations. To use this service:
- Add your EBT card as a payment method on DoorDash or Uber Eats
- Visit the CVS Pharmacy storefront on the app
- At checkout, select how much of your SNAP benefit to apply to eligible items in your order
- The remainder of your balance will be available for your next purchase
As of reporting in April 2025, over 7,100 CVS Pharmacy stores were available on these delivery platforms, though availability varies by location and time. Check the DoorDash or Uber Eats app to see if your nearby CVS participates.
What You Can and Cannot Buy With EBT at CVS
SNAP rules are the same at CVS as everywhere else. You can buy SNAP-eligible food items, including:
- Milk, yogurt, and other dairy products
- Bread and cereal
- Frozen food items
- Snacks like chips, crackers, nuts, and popcorn
- Non-alcoholic beverages like bottled water, juice, and soda
- Candy (which is SNAP-eligible if it does not contain vitamins or minerals)
You cannot buy with SNAP:
- Medicines, vitamins, and supplements
- Alcohol and tobacco
- Non-food items such as pet food, electronics, and toiletries
- Paper goods like toilet paper, paper plates, and paper towels
- Diapers and baby wipes
CVS stocks both pharmacy items and food items in the same store. Know which items qualify before you shop so you do not try to pay for ineligible items with your SNAP card. If you have mixed eligible and ineligible items, you will need to pay for non-eligible items separately with another payment method.
How to Confirm Your Store Accepts EBT
Because not every CVS location may accept EBT in the same way, call ahead before you go. Use the CVS store locator to find your nearest store, then call the pharmacy or customer service line to ask:
- Does this location accept EBT SNAP?
- Do you have self-checkout if I prefer to use it?
- Are there any items I should know about before I come in?
You can also ask a cashier at checkout if you are unsure whether a specific item is SNAP-eligible. If you use EBT at CVS and have questions about your account, state-specific EBT rules may apply; contact your state EBT customer service for details.
Combining EBT With Other CVS Offers
CVS offers CVS coupon deals and promotions on many items. You can use manufacturer or store coupons on SNAP-eligible items even when paying with EBT. However, coupons do not change what qualifies as SNAP-eligible. If an item is ineligible for SNAP, a coupon cannot make it eligible.
Other CVS benefits like a CVS senior discount or the ExtraCare loyalty program may work alongside EBT purchases, though CVS does not publish these combined rules publicly. Call your store to ask how discounts stack with EBT payments.
EBT Card Safety at CVS
Protect your EBT card while shopping at CVS or any store. Before you swipe, check the card reader for anything that looks loose or unusual, as skimming devices can steal your information. Do not share your PIN with anyone, including CVS employees. Keep your card secure, change your PIN monthly before your benefits are deposited, and monitor your transaction history for suspicious activity. If your EBT card is lost or stolen, call your state EBT customer service number immediately.
