Which Coupons Walgreens Accepts
Walgreens accepts the following coupon types:
- Manufacturer coupons (paper or digital) from the Walgreens website or printed from home.
- Walgreens digital paperless coupons clipped to your myWalgreens account.
- Register Rewards (Walgreens’ in-store promotional rewards that print at the register).
- Specific Catalina offers including Walgreens Cash rewards, dollar amounts off, percentage discounts when you spend a minimum, and “Buy X, get $X off your next purchase” promotions.
Walgreens does not accept competitor’s coupons, free product internet printed coupons, or digital reproductions of offers captured on a mobile phone. CVS coupon policy differs in some respects, so do not assume the same rules apply across retailers.
Coupon Stacking Rules and Limits
Stacking rules vary by coupon type and depend on whether you are buying one item or multiple items.
Single-Item Purchases
When buying a single item, you may use one manufacturer coupon (paper or digital) plus any applicable Walgreens digital coupon, as long as neither exceeds the item’s price. Paper manufacturer coupons take precedence over the same digital manufacturer coupon if both exist.
Buy One Get One Free (BOGO) Coupons
For BOGO promotions (buy one get one free, buy two get one free, etc.), you can use a maximum of one manufacturer BOGO coupon per two qualifying items. You may not apply any coupons to the free item itself. The number of coupons accepted cannot exceed the number of items in the “buy” portion of the deal.
Register Rewards
A maximum of one Register Rewards coupon is allowed per offer, per transaction, per customer. The total number of manufacturer coupons, including Register Rewards, cannot exceed the number of items in your entire transaction.
The Four-Coupon Household Limit
There is a limit of four identical coupons per household, per day, unless the coupon states otherwise.
Digital Coupons and Online Orders
For online orders (curbside pickup, in-store pickup, same-day delivery, or ship-to-home), digital coupons must be clipped to your myWalgreens account before placing the order. You cannot add digital coupons at the time of pickup or delivery. Amazon coupon policy has different online redemption procedures, so check that retailer’s rules separately if you shop there.
Paper Versus Digital Coupons
Paper and digital coupons have distinct rules at Walgreens.
Paper Manufacturer Coupons
Paper manufacturer coupons must have a clear barcode that can be scanned. They take precedence over the same digital coupon if both are presented. You may not use a paper coupon and a digital coupon for the same product on the same transaction; Walgreens will only accept one.
Digital Walgreens Paperless Coupons
Walgreens digital coupons must be clipped to your myWalgreens account before purchase. At checkout in-store, provide your phone number or have the cashier scan your myWalgreens Digital Wallet code. Coupons are automatically applied. You do not present a physical coupon or barcode on your phone; Walgreens does not accept mobile images of coupons.
Digital coupons clipped to your account will be automatically removed once redeemed and moved to your “redeemed coupons” section. Expired digital coupons are automatically removed at 11:59 P.M. in your store’s time zone on the expiration date.
Online Coupon Codes Versus Coupons
Online coupon codes (promo codes) and manufacturer coupons are different. You may use both a promo code and a manufacturer coupon on the same order or item. However, if you apply multiple coupon codes to the same product (e.g., one code for $20 off contacts and another code for 15% off contacts), the shopping cart will reject the second code. Codes for different product categories (e.g., one for fragrances and one for contact lenses) can both be applied.
Common Reasons Coupons Are Rejected
Understanding rejection triggers will help you avoid problems at checkout.
Expired or Invalid Coupons
Walgreens cannot accept expired coupons. Coupons expire at 11:59 P.M. local time in-store and at 11:59 P.M. CST for online orders on the date printed on the coupon. Check the expiration date before checkout.
Coupon Quality and Condition
Walgreens rejects coupons that are:
- Copied, reproduced, altered, transferred, purchased, or sold.
- Distorted, blurry, or altered in any way.
- Missing a clear, scannable barcode.
- Counterfeit or not from an official Walgreens or manufacturer source.
Product Mismatch
The coupon must match the exact product, brand, size, and quantity specified on the coupon. For example, a coupon for “any Colgate Total 3.3 oz or 5.1 oz” will not work on Colgate 360° or a different size. If you buy the wrong size or brand, the coupon will not redeem. Review the coupon terms carefully before purchase.
Ineligible Items
Register Rewards cannot be redeemed for:
- Alcoholic beverages.
- Dairy products.
- Gift cards, phone cards, or general purpose reloadable cards.
- Prescriptions or prescription-related services.
- Tobacco products.
- Lottery tickets, money orders, postage stamps, or transportation passes.
- Any items prohibited by law.
If you try to use Register Rewards on an ineligible item, the coupon will be declined.
Exceeding Item Price or Transaction Value
Coupons cannot exceed the selling price of an item, and Walgreens will not provide cash back. The total value of all coupons in a transaction cannot exceed the pre-tax transaction total. For example, if your items total $30 before tax and you have $35 in coupons, the extra $5 cannot be applied or given as cash.
Digital Coupons Not Clipped Before Purchase
Digital coupons clipped after checkout is complete will not be honored. For online orders, coupons must be clipped during order placement, not at pickup. Walgreens store hours may vary, so place online orders well before pickup times to ensure coupons are properly attached.
Counterfeit or Unauthorized Sources
Walgreens only accepts coupons from official Walgreens sources (walgreens.com/coupons or the Walgreens app) and legitimate manufacturer sources. Coupons from third-party coupon apps or unauthorized websites will be rejected.
Disruptive Behavior or Suspicious Use
Walgreens reserves the right to refuse or limit any coupon if the customer’s behavior becomes disruptive or confrontational, or if items purchased are deemed not for normal household use.
Register Rewards: Earning and Redeeming
Register Rewards print at the register when you meet promotion requirements (e.g., “spend $X, get $X in Register Rewards”). These are one-time use only and cannot be replaced if the qualifying merchandise is later returned. Once redeemed, you will not receive another Register Rewards coupon for the same offer. Register Rewards can only print for in-stock merchandise during the promotional period; substitutions are not made.
If you redeem a Register Rewards coupon, it is automatically removed from your account. Unused Register Rewards expire at the time printed on the coupon.
What to Do If a Coupon Is Declined
If a coupon is rejected at checkout, verify that the product matches the coupon terms (brand, size, quantity, price). Check that the coupon is not expired and has a clear barcode. Confirm that you are not exceeding the four-identical-coupon-per-household limit or the stacking rules for your items. If everything appears correct and the coupon is still declined, ask the cashier or store manager to review the coupon and the item details. For digital coupons on Walgreens.com, contact Walgreens customer service at 1-877-250-5823 with the product description and UPC barcode number. Walgreens return policy does not cover coupon disputes, so address coupon issues before completing your transaction.
