How Walmart Stores Your In-Store Purchase Records
When you use a payment card saved in your Walmart.com account at a Walmart store, the purchase automatically appears in your online Purchase History. You do not need to take any additional action. Walmart will also add other store purchases made with saved cards in the last 12 months, even if you didn’t have the card linked at the time of purchase. Walmart sends an email the first time it adds a store purchase to your account to notify you that it is available online.
Store purchases show up only if the name on your credit or debit card matches the name on your Walmart.com account. If you pay with cash, a check, or another payment method not linked to your account, the purchase will not automatically appear in your Purchase History.
If you no longer want in-store purchases to appear from a specific card, you can remove that card from your Walmart.com account. Future purchases made with that card will no longer sync, but past purchases will remain visible.
Finding Your Receipt Through Purchase History
The easiest way to retrieve a lost receipt is through your Purchase History:
- Log in to your Walmart.com account
- Go to your Account settings
- Click on Purchase History
- Find the purchase by scrolling or filtering by date
- Click View details to see receipt information
- Click the Print icon at the top left to print or save a digital copy
This same process works on the Walmart mobile app. Open the app, tap the Account button in the bottom right, select Purchase History, and find the order. You can view receipt details and print from there.
Using the Receipt Lookup Tool When You Don’t Have Your Account Linked
If your in-store purchase does not show in your Purchase History and you no longer have the physical receipt, Walmart provides a Receipt Lookup Tool. This is the official method when automatic syncing did not occur.
To use the Receipt Lookup Tool, you will need these details:
- ZIP code, city, or state of the store where you made your purchase
- Purchase date
- Total receipt amount
- Card type (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, or Walmart card)
- Last four digits of your card number
You can find the purchase date and amount on your bank or credit card statement. Enter these details into the Receipt Lookup Tool on Walmart.com, complete the security verification, and click Lookup receipt. The tool will retrieve your receipt, which you can then download and save.
Scanning Your Receipt With the Walmart App
If you still have the physical receipt, you can scan it directly into the Walmart app to link it to your account:
- Open the Walmart app
- Tap the search bar at the top
- Select the barcode icon
- Hold your phone camera over the barcode at the bottom of your receipt
- The receipt will be added to your Purchase History
This method works even if your card was not linked to your account at the time of purchase. Once scanned, the receipt stays in your account permanently.
How Far Back Walmart Records Go
Walmart automatically syncs in-store purchases made with saved payment cards for the last 12 months. This is the standard lookback window for most purchases. However, the official Walmart page does not specify a hard limit for how far back you can retrieve receipts using the Receipt Lookup Tool if you have your card details and purchase information available.
What to Do If You Have No Receipt and No Card Record
If you made an in-store purchase using cash or a payment method not linked to any Walmart account, the receipt will not appear in Purchase History and the Lookup Tool may not retrieve it. In this case, visit the store where you made your purchase and speak to a Customer Service Manager. Provide the date of your purchase and any details you remember. If the store still has a record on their system, they may be able to print a duplicate receipt.
For returns without a receipt, Walmart accepts returns with a valid government-issued photo ID. Walmart will check if your ID information matches their secured database. If accepted, refunds are processed as follows: cash refunds for purchases under 10 dollars, or a Walmart gift card for purchases of 10 dollars or more.
Online Orders and Pickup Receipts
For purchases made on Walmart.com, including Pickup, Delivery, and Shipping orders, the receipt is available in your Purchase History on the website or app. Log into your account, find the order, and click the Print icon at the top left. The barcode at the bottom of your order confirmation serves as your proof of purchase if needed for returns or warranty claims.
Walmart Pay Receipts
Purchases made with Walmart Pay appear in your Purchase History automatically, even if you have opted out of syncing other store purchases. These receipts are always available to view and print through your account.
If the Lookup Tool and Purchase History Don’t Work
If you have tried the Receipt Lookup Tool and cannot locate your receipt through your Purchase History, use the Chat with us option on Walmart.com to reach customer support. Have your card information, purchase date, and purchase amount ready to share with the representative. They can manually search their system and help retrieve your receipt if it is available.
Keeping Records of Your Receipts
To avoid losing receipts in the future, consider regularly downloading and saving your Walmart receipts to your computer or phone. Scanning physical receipts into the Walmart app provides a permanent digital backup. For business purchases, keep receipts for at least three years for tax and accounting purposes, as IRS requirements typically mandate this retention period.
