This represents a shift from Target’s previous policy. As of 2026, Target no longer matches prices from competing retailers.
What Target Will Price Match
Target matches prices on qualifying items in two scenarios:
- You bought an item in a Target store and find the same item for less on Target.com or the Target app
- You purchased on Target.com or the Target app and find the same item for less in a Target store
Target will also match prices on Target Circle deals, which apply automatically when you identify yourself as a Target Circle member at checkout.
For Target Plus Partner items, Target will match the price only if the lower price comes from the same Target Plus Partner on Target.com.
What Target Will Not Price Match
Target explicitly does not price match items from competing retailers. This includes Walmart, Amazon, and all other outside retailers.
Additionally, Target will not price match:
- Prices from different Target store locations (only Target.com vs. in-store)
- Items on clearance, closeout, liquidation, or refurbished sales
- Damaged, used, or open package items
- Pre-owned or rent-to-own items
- Items with typographical pricing errors
- Pre-order items
- Optical, pharmacy, and clinic purchases
- Contract mobile phone devices and associated plans
- Product services like warranties or assembly
- Items purchased with a Target GiftCard promotion
Proof Required for Price Matching
Target has specific requirements for proof depending on where you made the purchase.
For in-store purchases: Bring the original receipt to Guest Services. You must also show the lower price from Target.com or the Target app. Screenshots and pictures are not accepted as proof. The Target team member will verify the price on a mobile device showing the current price for your store location.
For online purchases (Target.com or Target app): Chat with Target online or call Guest Services at 1-800-591-3869. Have your order number and item information ready, along with the current lower price you want to match.
The price must be listed and valid at the time you request the match. If Target cannot verify the lower price, they may decline your request.
Time Limits for Price Match Requests
You have 14 days from the purchase date to request a price match. You can request it at the time of purchase or anytime within those 14 days. After 14 days, Target will not adjust the price.
Combining Price Matches with Coupons
Target does not allow price matches to be combined with most promotional offers. You cannot use a price match if:
- You received a promotional Target GiftCard as part of the original purchase or if the item currently has a Target GiftCard offer
- You are using a Registry completion coupon
- You are using other Target coupons (except manufacturer coupons on in-store purchases)
- You are applying Target Circle Bonuses (just-for-you offers that must be selected in the app or website)
Manufacturer coupons will be applied after a price match on in-store purchases only.
Alaska and Hawaii Restrictions
Price matching with the Target app or Target.com prices is not available in Alaska and Hawaii.
When Target May Deny a Price Match
Target reserves the right to deny a price match request and limit quantities per guest. Reasons for denial include:
- Unable to verify the lower price exists or is valid
- The item is not identical (different brand, size, weight, color, quantity, or model number)
- The item falls into an excluded category
Target Plus Partner Price Matching
If you purchased an item from a Target Plus Partner (a third-party seller on Target.com), Target has a separate policy. Target will match the price only if the lower price is from the same Target Plus Partner on Target.com. Target will not match Target Plus Partner prices to regular Target prices or vice versa. Requests must be made within 14 days and you must have the original receipt.
How to Request a Price Match in Practice
Go to the Target store hours finder to locate your nearest store and confirm it is open. Then:
In-store: Proceed to Guest Services with your original receipt and your phone showing the Target.com price or Target app price for your store location. Request the price match. A team member will verify the price before processing the adjustment.
Online: Chat with Target through Target.com or call 1-800-591-3869. Have your order number, item details, and the current lower price ready. Be prepared to provide proof of the Target Circle deal membership if applicable.
If you have other questions about your purchase, check Target’s Target return policy to understand other options beyond price matching.
