What payment methods qualify for receipt lookup:
- A card associated with your Target.com account
- Your Wallet barcode scanned at checkout in the Target app
- A phone number registered with your Target Circle account
If you paid with cash, check, or a Target GiftCard that is not linked to your Wallet, Target cannot retrieve your purchase details online. In those cases, you must bring your original receipt to a Target store.
How to Find an In-Store Receipt
To look up an in-store purchase on Target.com or the Target app, you must have paid using one of the qualifying methods listed above. Within a few hours of purchase, the transaction will appear in your account.
Using the Target app:
- Open the Target app and go to your account tab
- Select Purchase history
- Find your order
- Select the order to view details
- Select Return an item or Return options if needed
- You can print or view a return barcode on your mobile device to show Guest Services
Using Target.com:
- Log into your Target account
- Select Orders
- Toggle to the In-store view, which appears underneath the word Orders
- Select View orders to find your in-store purchase details
- You can print a return barcode or gift receipt from this screen
If your purchases do not appear after following these steps, you may need to add a payment card to your account. Navigate to your account tab, select Payment cards, and add the card you used for the purchase. Then return to your Purchase history or Orders and toggle to In-store again.
How to Find an Online Receipt
Online receipts and invoices remain available for approximately two years. You can access them through your account or app within a few hours of your purchase.
Using the Target app:
- Open the Target app and go to your account tab
- Select Purchase history
- Find your order
- Select Receipts
- Select View
- From here you can present the barcode to Guest Services for a return, share a gift receipt, or view a detailed invoice
Using Target.com:
- Log into your Target account
- Select Purchase History
- Find your order
- Select View order to see order details
- Select Receipts and invoices
- Choose Print receipts, Print gift receipt, or View detailed invoices as needed
You do not need a packing slip to process a return. Instead, you can use the returns barcode from your shipment confirmation email, the returns barcode in your Target app, or access your Orders page and select Return an item.
Gift Receipts
A gift receipt hides the price and makes returns easier for gift recipients. You can request a gift receipt at the time of purchase or afterward.
To request a gift receipt after purchase:
- Bring your original receipt to Guest Services at a Target store before it expires
- Or print a gift receipt from Target.com or the Target app using the steps above
What to Do If You Cannot Find Your Receipt Online
If your purchase does not appear in your online history, check the following:
- You paid with a qualifying method: a card linked to your Target account, your Wallet in the Target app, or a phone number registered with Target Circle
- Enough time has passed. Transactions appear within a few hours
- You are looking in the correct view. In-store purchases appear under the In-store toggle, separate from online orders
- Your payment card is saved to your account. Add it if needed and check again
If you paid with cash, check, or an unlinked Target GiftCard, your purchase cannot be retrieved online. Visit a Target store and bring any documentation you have, such as the original receipt or packaging, to work with Guest Services.
Calling Target for Help
If you cannot locate your receipt or need additional assistance, call Target Guest Relations at 1-800-440-0680. Have the approximate purchase date and any details you remember ready to help speed up the process.
Receipts and Returns
When you return an item, you can present a physical receipt, the return barcode from your mobile device, or use the barcode in your shipment confirmation email. Before returning an item, always check the Target price adjustment policy to confirm the item is eligible for a return. Some items have specific return windows or conditions.
If you received an item as a gift, a Target gift card policy page explains options for gift-related transactions.
