What Is Walgreens Seniors Day and Who Qualifies
Walgreens Seniors Day is a monthly discount program exclusively for myWalgreens members aged 55 and older. You do not need to pay for a membership, as myWalgreens is free to join. The discount applies to regular-priced items only, meaning sale items, clearance merchandise, and items already discounted are not eligible.
Proof of age may be required at checkout, so bring a valid ID when you shop. The official Walgreens page does not specify which forms of ID are accepted, only that proof of age “may” be requested. In-store, you simply let the cashier know you are shopping for Seniors Day to activate the discount. Online, you enter the promo code SENIOR20 at checkout during the eligible dates.
When Seniors Day Occurs and How Long It Lasts
Seniors Day takes place on the first Tuesday of each month in-store only. However, the online discount window is much longer: it runs the full week aligned with Seniors Day, from the Sunday prior through the Saturday after that Tuesday. This means you get a single day of in-store savings but seven days of online savings each month.
According to the official retailer page, the date may change due to holidays, so check Walgreens.com or call your store before shopping if a holiday falls near the first Tuesday. For August 2026, Seniors Day was August 4 in-store and August 2-8 online. The official page notes that the discount is once per month, so you cannot stack multiple Seniors Day purchases to reach a higher total discount.
What the 20% Discount Covers
The 20% discount applies only to regular-priced merchandise. This is a critical distinction: if an item is on sale, it is not eligible for the Seniors Day discount. You cannot combine Seniors Day with other promotions such as buy one get one free, buy one get one 50% off, or buy two get one third free.
Common items eligible for the discount include health and wellness products such as blood pressure monitors, pulse oximeters, heating pads, nutritional shakes, pain relief products, vitamins, and supplements. Beauty and personal care items at regular price also qualify. However, the exclusion list is extensive.
You can combine the Seniors Day discount with your own Walgreens coupon policy clipped coupons and Walgreens Cash rewards, allowing you to stack savings on eligible items.
What Is Not Covered by the Seniors Day Discount
Many categories are excluded from the 20% discount, and these exclusions apply both in-store and online:
- Alcohol and dairy products
- Tobacco and cigarettes
- Prescriptions and all pharmacy items or services
- Gift cards, stamps, newspapers, and magazines
- Money orders, transfers, and lottery tickets
- Transportation passes and charitable donations
- Pseudoephedrine or ephedrine products (cold and allergy medications containing these active ingredients)
- Clinic services and vaccines
- Items submitted to insurance for reimbursement
Online-only exclusions include CBD products, Alli weight loss aid, at-home COVID test kits, Philips Norelco and Sonicare products, electronics, Similac and Enfamil baby formula, Hasbro and Marvel products, select luxury beauty brands, select As Seen on TV products, photo orders, and select medical nutrition products. Bulk orders, back-ordered items, and out-of-stock items are also excluded.
The discount does not apply to Deals of the Week or Walgreens Ready Response items. Taxes and shipping charges are never discounted. If a product is subject to legal restrictions or insurance reimbursement limits, it is ineligible.
How to Claim Your Seniors Day Discount
To use the discount in-store, you must have a myWalgreens account (which is free) and inform the cashier that you are shopping on Seniors Day. Have your ID ready in case the store requests proof of age. The discount applies at checkout; you do not need to enter a code or show a digital coupon.
Online, log into your Walgreens.com account, select regular-priced items, and enter code SENIOR20 at checkout. The code is valid only during the designated week and counts as one use per order and one use per account. Orders must be placed by 11:59 p.m. Central Time on the final day of Seniors Week to qualify. Walgreens determines timing by its own server clock, not your local time.
Note that some third-party sources mention that AARP members under 55 could previously use the SENIOR20 code with an AARP membership linked to their Walgreens account, but the official Walgreens page does not confirm this option. For clarity on whether you are eligible, contact Walgreens customer service or check your myWalgreens account settings.
Comparing Walgreens Seniors Day to Other Retailers
Walgreens is not the only pharmacy offering senior discounts. CVS senior discount programs differ in structure and percentage. Whole Foods senior discount provides 10% off once per week for shoppers 55 and older. Trader Joe’s senior discount offers 5% off on designated days for qualifying seniors. Aldi senior discount varies by region. Walgreens Seniors Day stands out for its 20% discount, though the restriction to regular-priced items only and the long exclusion list narrow the effective savings compared to discounts that apply more broadly.
Additional Ways Seniors Can Save at Walgreens
Beyond Seniors Day, seniors can use additional programs to reduce costs. The myWalgreens loyalty program earns 1% Walgreens Cash on regular purchases and 5% on Walgreens-branded products, applied automatically with your membership. Medicare Advantage members with supplemental over-the-counter benefits can use those benefits to purchase eligible OTC items free or at reduced cost both in-store and online, and can combine this with the SENIOR20 code during Seniors Week for additional savings.
Seniors can also take advantage of Walgreens price adjustment policy if a regular-priced item drops in price within a certain window after purchase. Additionally, review your benefits with the Walgreens price match policy to confirm whether your local store accepts external price matches, as this varies by location.
